Based on 48 working weeks a year. If the extra jobs don't fit, the saved driving still comes back to you as shorter days and less fuel.

How the calculator works

A day with several jobs is the jobs themselves plus the drives in between. The calculator works out how many jobs fit in your working hours twice: once with your current drive time, and once with the shorter drive you get when the day's jobs are all in one area. The difference is the extra work you could take on.

How to start working by area

  1. Split your service area into a few zones by ZIP code or postcode.
  2. Give each zone its own days, based on where most of your clients are.
  3. Let customers book online, but only on the days you are in their zone.
  4. Turn away out of area bookings politely, before they reach your calendar.

This is exactly what ZipScheduler does: customers enter their ZIP code or postcode first, and see only the days you work near them. Try the live demo to book a test appointment as a customer would.

Questions

What does working by area mean?

Instead of taking bookings anywhere on any day, you give each day of the week to one part of your service area. Monday might be the north side, Tuesday the town centre. Your jobs on a given day are close together, so you drive less between them.

Will customers accept fewer days to choose from?

Most do, especially when they can see which days you are in their area and book one themselves. Many mobile businesses find customers value a reliable regular day more than total flexibility.

How do I measure my drive time between jobs?

Look back at a typical week in your calendar or your phone’s map history and note the time between finishing one job and arriving at the next. An average across a week is good enough for this calculator.

What if I can’t fill the extra jobs?

Then the gain shows up as time instead of money: shorter working days, less fuel and less wear on your vehicle, for the same income.
